After I was already interested in amateur radio as a teenager and spent many hours listening to exciting radio messages with home-made receivers, it was finally time after decades that I seriously worked on taking the amateur radio examen. After a few weeks of intensive learning in a course of older, experienced amateur radio operators, the time had come at the end of 2010. I received my call sign OE3HBW after the state CEPT class 1 examination. A Kenwood TS-590S was bought as an amateur radio device and for once I didn't build it myself. At the beginning, a long wire antenna with counterweight was installed. This allows me to participate in shortwave amateur radio. A small corner in my hobby room was set up as amateur radio shack.
